Reading glasses. A wedding ring on the windowsill. A stuffed rabbit called Gerald who now has his own shelf and excellent posture.
We’ve laughed. We’ve been baffled. We’ve spent longer than any adult should staring at fifteen unmatched socks.
But the thing that stays with us — the thing that sits quietly in a drawer of its own — is a piece of paper we found on a kitchen table at a Forest of Dean cottage on a grey October morning.
A handwritten note. Just four words, in capital letters.
“THANK YOU THIS WAS PERFECT.”
No name. No booking reference. Just those words, written by someone who wanted to say something before they left and didn’t quite have the time — or the right words — for anything more.
We kept it.
It’s still there.
This is why the details matter. The hamper with the bow. The linen turned just so. The little local touches that say someone thought about you before you arrived. The shelf Gerald is sitting on while he waits to go home.
The details are kind of our thing. 🤍
